I think we are underestimating the usefulness of animal studies. They have contributed to many of the biggest medical advances in the last century from blood transfusions to joint replacements. I think a lot of the reason there isn't quality human evidence is because we can't control near as many variables as we can with animal studies. Think we can learn a lot from these studies.
